Don´t you just hate it when...

You spend bloody 20 minutes of your life writing something, only to save it and it disappears?! What the fuck. Seriously…did it just spontaneously combust into the cybersphere?! Surely it´s there somewhere?! And now all my witty, hilarious comments (sarcasm…) are gone forever! Damn. You. Tumblr.

So I´m going to try again but I´ve lost all my enthusiasm and it wont be as good as my first attempt. Just so you know xP

Tomás being the totó that he is, managed to hurt his knee at work today and ended up going to the hospital. Me being me, complete drama queen was like OH MY GOD! and was rushing around trying to figure out how to get to the hospital to see him. I should have listened to him and just stayed at home to wait for him, but I didn’t want him to be alone and I wanted to look after him! So I jumped on the metro to Pragal with the vaguest idea of where the hospital was. Tomás words were: its the pink building near the 25 de abril bridge. Hmm. Great.

When I got off the metro I just walked in the direction I thought it was, not knowing I was actually walking through the Ghetto of Caparica - not a good start. Anyway, I thought it was going ok, until I realised all the fecking buildings around me were PINK! Tomás called me wondering where I was, and I said, er near lots of pink builidings!!! So anyway, his next instruction was to just. follow. the. road.. again very helpful… lol.

So, thus ensued more aimless walking, passing many dodgy looking characters and getting sunburnt… Eventually I see the hospital…but the next problem is er THE MASSIVE FENCE surrounding the complex… so I’m supposed to jump over the frigging thing?! Lets just say, I spent another 20 minutes trying to find the fucking entrance to the bastard hospital and got very frustrated.

Then Tomás calls me.. “Im done, where are you?”. Er, done?! What the fuck? In England, it would be at least 2 hours waiting to be seen etc etc. So then we spent ages on the phone describing what was around us trying to find each other. Now it seems amusing but at the time it was about to have a fit.

So long story short, he’s okay, just a little sore and I now know Pragal VERY well :)

Exhausted but happy

Today consisted of another journey to IKEA because the plonkers forgot an essential part we needed to complete our coffee table. So, you can imagine that I was SO upset that we had to go back! :DDDD But I did control myself and only bought a few little pieces like candles, flowers and some bed sheets :)

I then spoke to Mummy and found out that my Brother and 2 cousins are definitely coming to visit at the end of August!! My dad was coming anyway, but now they are coming too! It´s going to be awesome. They´ve managed to bag a really nice 3 bedroom apartment in Bairro and I can´t wait to show them the sights, the nightlife, the weather…

Well, that´s all for now. Time for a cup of tea :)

Oh I forgot…another bloody cockroach weaseled it´s way into my apartment last night…bastard! It´s currently hiding underneath my washing machine… Uugggh .. I shiver when I think about it :/ I hope it spontaneously combusts so I don´t have to endure the uncomfortableness of disposing of it….

If at first you don´t succeed...

try, try again!!!

Well, I don´t always suscribe to this philosophy, but in the case of cooking, I do. Especially when the motivation is high! Since moving here I´ve pretty much been living a student lifestyle in terms of cooking… pasta, cheese rolls, sometimes cereal….lol.

And to be honest, it could have been worse… I know how to cook a mean lasagne and banana bread… But dinner time was starting to get a little boring, and since Tomás has practically moved in, I thought it was high time to start cooking properly!

Lucky for me, Mummy gave me a Jamie Olivier cook book for Christmas, and since it is one of only a few books in my house, I found it pretty easily!! :) So for the last couple of weeks I´ve been trying (REALLY trying) hard to cook. And there have been more failures than successes…. for example, I tried to make a spinach quiche, but I was unsure if I should fold over the top with the filo pastry… Mr. Olivier said so, but there didn´t seem to be enough pastry.. but Tomás ASSURED me it could be done… Let´s just say, once you´ve stretched the pastry with the filling already inside, it´s kinda impossible to go back… :( Result? A half covered spinach quiche. Horrible. Absolutely horrible. AND worse than looking like shit, it tasted like shit too! So lessons learnt: Never buy frozen spinach… despite it´s ease of storage it tastes god damn awful. Second: I realised i HATE feta cheese. Thirdly: Go with gut instincts. (I knew it wouldn´t stretch!).

I won´t elaborate with my many other disasters… the only thing I will say is if Tomás and I aren´t sick tomorrow, it will be luck because the chicken I cooked for lunch today smelt worse than a dog´s backside.

ANYWAY.. the good news is, I made a really tasty anniversary dinner for Tomás this week AND a bacon and CHEDDAR cheese quiche today.

´Appy Dayz! =)

Dilemmas

Wow. I never contemplated how difficult it would be to design and furnish an apartment!! I thought it would be easy: go to ikea and bob´s your uncle! But ohhh no. I find myself wondering if things colour co ordinate, if the coffee table is at the right height, in line with the sofa, symmetrical…. aaaaaaaaaarghh! All this stress is totally self inflicted of course, as Tomás doesn´t really care about the minor details…but I´m a complete perfectionist, fussy and really indecisive…. for example, i could literally spend 30 minutes walking around a home store, studying all the products, thinking if it will go well, if it´s practical, if its over priced, blah blah, then walk out with nothing, only to come back 10 minutes later and buy way too many things! =D

Never mind. It´s all completely new, and the living room is finally coming together, after finally caving in and deciding to stop buying clothes/jewelry etc for myself and start looking after the apartment! I had curtains and a sofa already here when I arrived, so that pretty much determined the colour scheme, but I´ve kinda added a few nice little touches so far. It´s no where near finished, as I still have to add shelves, pictures and some more accessories, but it´s finally starting to feel cosy and like home :)
